VICE PRESIDENT David Tirard and his wife Susan live in Rose Hill plantation with two rambunctious golden retrievers.
David is a native of the British Isles, coming to this country originally nine years ago. He met Susan in his first port of call, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and they left for the warmer climes of the South a year later. Susan's father had lived in Port Royal for twenty years.
David was a career banker with Barclays Bank PLC for thirty-three years. Starting at the bottom, he worked his way through various personal sector positions, and then moved into the corporate banking world. A spell on the Bank's work-study team as the Bank computerized was a challenge, as was his position as a bank inspector in Zambia. He became the Regional Manager of six branches before restructuring took him to manage a hundred corporate clients.
David is fortunate that wife Susan does not object to his passion for Rotary. When not travelling with her sales manager job, Susan willingly rings the bell for Salvation Army, acts as greeter on the buses during Heritage week and enjoys Rotary social functions. Being impressed by Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio, she invested in the Rotary Foundation and is a Paul Harris Fellow. A true “Rotary spouse”
Being retired enables David to take a full part in all aspects of the Hilton Head Rotary Club. His six years membership has enabled him to give back to the community, in small part salving his conscience for the “taking” of his thirty three year career.
When not involved in Rotary, David also volunteers with the Concours d’Elegance, helps with the Bluffton Boys and Girls Club annual fund raiser, and finds time for the occasional game of golf.
