We made a $250,000 commitment to Memory Matters as a matching grant in 2008 for the purpose of helping them find a permanent facility. This important organization helps the families and caretakers of those with Alzheimers and dementia through daytime programs and professional counceling. They had been doing their work out of churches on a temporary basis. Today they have a brand new building. We are continuing to raise funds through several means. Throughout the fall and winter Rotarians are hosting "Dining in with Friends".
To learn more about Memory Matters go to www.memory-matters.org. To help us in our efforts, please contact our Rotary office or send a check to the Community Foundation and note that it is for the Hilton Head Rotary's Memory Matters donor advised fund.

As Rotary International initiative we are raising funds to help support the eradication of polio. At present this horrible disease exists only in four countries worldwide. Rotary has been given a challenge to raise $200 million by 2012. Locally we have partnered with the 5 area Rotary clubs in Beaufort County and the Coastal Empire Polio Survivors Association to put on "Heel to Toe for Polio" , a walk at Coligny beach. To learn more about this initiative and the status of polio cases accross the world visit http://www.rotary.org/en/ServiceAndFellowship/Polio/Pages/ridefault.aspx?housead.

One of our community service projects is to help ring the bell at holiday time for the Salvation Army. Look for us outside local stores throughout November and December.
During the spring we assist the Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry at their annual "Cooks and Books" event. We will help with the setup, teardown, ticket sales and at the beverage table and wherever else we can be of use.
During the spring Hilton Head Rotarians are the bus greeters and fore-caddies for the Heritage Classic Golf Tournament. We use the funds raised to provide scholarships to local students.

Throughout the year we take on projects to help in the community. One of our "hands-on" projects has been to help the Coastal Discovery Museum with their seashell pathway.
