Polio Plus 2011 - Heel to Toe for Polio Walk

The third and final Heel to Toe Walk for Polio is set for October 8th, 2011 at the Coligny Beach Park on Hilton Head. Registration and check in will begin at 9AM in the Holiday Inn parking lot with the beach walk to start at 10:00. Following a walk in length of you choice from 1/2 - 5 miles, a Victory Celebration will be hosted at the adjacent Beach Market with lunch, refreshments, music, and loads of door prizes. The Holiday Inn is offering special overnight rates. Specify 'Heel to Toe' when calling.

Sponsored by the 5 local Rotary Clubs and the Coastal Empire Polio Survivors Assocation, the proceeds benefit Rotary Internationals Polio Plus project to eradicate polio world-wide and go towards a 200 million pledge to be matched with 355 million by the Gates Foundation.

This year there have been only 274 reported new cases of polio world-wide. But it was recently reported 5% of American children are unvaccinated making children everywhere, even in the USA, vulnerable to this highly contagious but preventable disease.

There will be a barbecue hosted by BNC Bank on Friday, September 30th from 11:30-2PM at their Pineland Mall location. All proceeds go to Polio Plus.
